Compasses Fine Motor / Science / Language Preschool to Grade One
Carefully cut some large circle shapes out of cardboard using a utility knife. Punch a hole in the top of the circles with a large nail. Set some strings and beads out at the table. Also tape to the table a large example of a compass, the circle with the N, E, S, W markings on it. Have the children create their compass by writing the different direction symbols on their circle using a marker. Let them insert the string into the hole on the top of their compass, then they can string beads onto the string and around the circle shape to create a compass that they can wear around their neck.
