Churros are a Mexican treat similar to a donut and are easy to make. As with all cooking activities, this project requires constant teacher supervision. By some biscuit dough, (the pre-made kind that comes in a tube) enough for two biscuits for each child in the class. Bring a skillet into the classroom and fill with vegetable oil. Turn the heat to medium. At another table, have the kids wash their hands and roll each biscuit into snakelike sections then twist the two pieces together. When done, have the teacher fry the Churros while the kids watch. Use tongs to flip them over, cooking them until golden brown. Remove the Churros, draining any excess grease, and immediately roll thm in sugar or a cinnamon sugar mixture. Let it cool for a few minutes before the children eat.
