A one end of the table, set out a small tub or large bowl filled with water. At the other end, provide cloth towels, paper towels, and clear glossy fingernail polish. Next gather an assortment of rocks, and some old toothbrushes or paint brushes. Have the kids pick a rock, and use the tooth brushes to scrub it clean. After they have cleaned it up, use the clothe towels to dry it, and set it on the paper towel to polish. The glossy polish will bring out the rocks true colors. If you are doing this activity at home, you can have the children set off to find their own rocks, and this project will keep them busy for hours.
