Stockpile trash for a week; things like plastic pop bottles, disposable containers, and any other potentially interesting items normally thrown away. Clean and sanitize it all and set the trash out at a table for children to explore. Have the kids come up with ideas for things that could be made with the trash, or additional uses they could serve. Provide paper and writing utensils so they can draw out their plans.
