Sit down with the kids in group, and ask them what they would like to see happen in their community. Will they push for world peace? An end to crime? Free candy for all? Or a law banning nap time? Encourage them to get as creative as possible. During Centers time help each of them dictate a letter to their state representative outlining their requests for a government that better serves them. Have them sign their names and draw a picture for their representative as well. Put them in an envelope and send each on off to a different representative. Include the schools mailing address next to where the kids sign their names and you should get several responses, making this a valuable learning activity.
