Set up a makeshift curtain around your wood working table, (to shield the rest of the classroom from flying debris) Provide the kids with safety goggles, hammers, and an assortment of small rocks. (If you have budget for it, you can by geodes.) Have the kids place the rocks on the table and break them open with hammers to see what is inside. You may want to lay another piece of wood or an old baking sheet across your wood working table to shield it from nicks.
Note: In place of a curtain, you can put the rocks inside old socks to contain the debris
