Collect 2 or 3 large shoe boxes. Take the lids off, and place them upside down on a cutting surface. Use a stencil to trace different shapes on the back of the shoebox lid, and cut them out using a box cutter or razor blade. Replace the lid on the shoebox. Tape on a word label (square, circle, etc) next to each shape opening in the lid. Next, use the same stencil you used for the shoe box tops, and cut out shape pieces from spare cardboard or heavy card stock, again using a box cutter. Also label the shape pieces with the correct word. Set the shoe boxes and shape pieces out at one of your tables. Have the kids put the shape pieces into the correct slot in the shoe box. Make a game of it by timing them and seeing how fast they can put away all the shapes, or give each child the same amount of shape pieces and have them race each other.
