Looking closely at a leaf Have you ever looked real closely at a leaf? If you do, you'll notice an intricate pattern of leaf veins. Like blood vessels in the human body, you'll see one main vein going up the leaf, several veins splitting off from it to the side; and if you look real closely you'll notice a lattice-work of even smaller veins springing off from those. These veins form a network that moves water and other nutrients to the various parts of the plant. This forms an efficient patchwork of veins, often times in loops, that helps plants circumvent damaged areas to channel nutrients to the parts that need them.
